Buy or Not to Buy?

BNT previously offered E&O coverage, though over time we moved away from it because, in our experience, it did not provide substantial day-to-day value for most agents relative to its cost.
Here is a perspective based on travel industry practice and guidance we have received from attorneys:
E&O tends to function more as “catastrophic” protection. Its primary purpose is to help with legal defense in the event of a significant claim, even if the claim has no merit It. It offers limited relief for routine issues. Policies generally do not cover simple booking mistakes, name errors, standard client misunderstandings, or anything that appears intentional. They also exclude matters involving bodily injury, employment issues, or data security. Some agents still find it useful. Those who manage high-value trips, work entirely independently, or prefer an added layer of legal protection sometimes choose to obtain their own policy. Providers such as Berkshire Hathaway or Hiscox are often mentioned as stable and reputable options.
We encourage each agent to look at the cost, their business model, and their personal comfort level. For many independent agents, the practical benefit of E&O lies mainly in having a legal defense mechanism for rare and significant situations, rather than coverage for everyday booking errors.
